BOAT owners in Fareham don’t have to go far to find everything they need to make life on the water plain sailing.

Fareham Marina Chandlery is run by marina owner Katherine Wainwright, who has filled the shelves with all the essentials needed to make boating life easier.

Packed with general maintenance products and boat spares, the shop is also home to the marina office, making it the perfect one-stop shop for both essential supplies and general queries.

‘The chandlery is for anyone who has a boat – not just in the marina but along the whole Solent,’ said Katherine.

‘As people start to think about preparing their boats for winter, they can come to us for all their general maintenance products for washing and cleaning, stabilising the fuel and the oil and the anodes, general repairs and paint.

‘Looking after your boat now will help protect it through the winter and make it easier to prepare for next spring’s boating season.

‘Covid meant people couldn’t go anywhere for a long time and may not have been paying enough attention to their boats. But next spring will be super busy, so I’m saying get things ready now. You don’t want to miss the good weather because you’ll be spending hours doing all those jobs on your boat you haven’t done for two years!

‘We have our winter stock of antifoul paints, primers and supplies, and are happy to order in anything more specialised that you can’t find in store.’

Katherine is also planning to open a coffee shop in the chandlery next year.

She said: ‘It will be an added bonus. Fareham Marina is within walking distance from the town centre, so people can come down to the quayside even if they don’t have a boat.

‘It’s a conservation area down here and this is a listed building, so it’s very pretty.’

Fareham Marina Chandlery was refitted by Katherine in 2019 after the previous managers retired.

She has spoken to The News as part of the Live Love Local campaign, organised by Fareham Borough Council to promote the benefits of shopping locally.

She said: ‘The chandlery was much more specialised before and now it’s much more general so it’s more open for people to use it. It’s also a really nice area for people to come and look around.

‘The Live Love Local campaign is great, because I want to be able to tell people they are able to shop local now – they don’t have to travel to Portsmouth or the Hamble or Port Solent or go all the way down to Gosport.

‘It’s all about being part of your community and knowing your area. The locals really like coming here. They can see the products, and we can show them alternatives and things they may not

have considered.

‘We also have lots of useful products that would make excellent stocking fillers, from boat wash and wax to microfibre noodle sponges and waterproof bags. When you have a boat, there’s always something more to buy!’
