Portsmouth called to back aid week appeal for refugees

KIND residents are being called to dig deep and help refugees fleeing global conflict.

Portsmouth South MP Flick Drummond issued the plea after meeting with members of Christian Aid in the city.

Her call to arms comes ahead of the aid charity’s annual fundraising week later this month.

Last year’s drive saw residents in the city raising more than £10,000 for the charity.

Mrs Drummond hopes people will again get involved and said: ‘Millions of people have been forced to flee their homes and livelihoods due to war, conflict and disaster and they really need the help of fantastic organisations, like Christian Aid, as they make life-threatening journeys in search of a safe place.

‘So, I was pleased to meet with the charity to hear about the great work that is being done in Portsmouth South and across the country to help refugees at this important time.’

The next fundraising week is from May 14 to May 20. For details, see christianaid.org.uk/christian-aid-week
