Portsmouth-based charity The Karen Ingram Foundation is set to host an online quiz on April 10 as its fourth virtual event since the pandemic began.

Established in 2008 and set up in memory of Karen Jane Ingram, a mother of two from Portsmouth, the charity raises funds for research into the blood cancer non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Tom Ingram, Karen’s son and founder of the charity, said: ‘We are so excited to be hosting another virtual quiz night to bring a little bit of light hearted relief during these challenging times whilst raising vital funds for a cause we are so passionate about’’.

‘The Covid-19 pandemic has had a devastating impact on our fundraising efforts as it has for many charities up and down the country.

‘However, determined not to be beaten we have tried to evolve by hosting virtual fundraisers which have proved to be very popular with our supporters.’

Tickets for the event cost £3.50 per team, with a bottle of prosecco up for grabs for the winner and all proceeds will help fund clinical cancer trials into non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

This type of cancer affects the cells of the lymphatic system known as white blood cells.

There are more than 50 different types of the disease with 13,000 new diagnoses each year and more than 4,700 attributable deaths, making it the fifth most common cancer in the UK.

Despite the success of previous events, Tom said: ‘With the easing of lockdowns looming, this is likely going to be our last virtual event and so we would love to go out with a bang!

‘These events have been really special, not only for the cause they are supporting but also bringing people together during these periods of isolation.

The event will run via a Zoom meeting to help adhere to the latest government guidelines.
