Portsmouth carer's plea after losing mum's ring just months after she died with Covid-19

Sam Evans, a care manager from Portsmouth, took her grandchildren to the seafront yesterday, walking up and down between the Coffee Cup in Eastney and South Parade Pier.

But when she returned home, the 55-year-old discovered that her mother’s silver ring had fallen off her hand while they were out.

Dotty Harman, 90, died in April this year after contracting coronavirus. The ring is the same one she wore while she was in hospital.

Now Sam is pleading for people to check the area in a bid to find it again.

She said: ‘We walked up and down the promenade, but went onto the pebbles a few times as well.

‘When I realised I had lost the ring we retraced our steps but couldn’t find it anywhere – we didn’t go back to Eastney though.

‘I feel like I should never have worn it, it’s devastating.’

After appealing for help on Facebook, Sam’s post has been shared more than 50 times.

She said it would mean the world to have the ring returned to her.

‘I would love nothing more than to have it back, it has such a huge sentimental value to me,’ she said.

‘Loads of people have shared it and that has been really heartwarming – one lady even offered for me to borrow her metal detector, which was very kind.’
