This Portsmouth church is being converted into a wrestling arena for fundraising event this week
It’s the first time a wrestling event has been held inside the church.
A church is going to be transformed into a wrestling venue for a fundraising event later this week.
St Mary’s Church in Fratton is open every day for private prayer and reflection. But on Friday, May 22, the only reflections you’ll be seeing is those of wrestlers on the canvas.

For the first time ever, the church is being converted into a wrestling arena, with St Mary’s Suplex hosting a family-friendly wrestling show that evening. The event will feature local fan-favourites such as Matty Linx, Ross Owen Williams, and Built.
The wrestling evening is raising money for the St Mary’s Music Foundation, a charity dedicated to giving children the opportunity to learn and perform music. There will even be a chorister and their family stepping into the ring on the night.
A spokesperson for the event said: “This is a celebration of Portsmouth’s spirit. We’re proud to host this event in such a historic venue, and to feature so many incredible local wrestlers—all united by a shared mission to support music education.”
Doors will open at 6.30pm, with the event starting at 7pm. Tickets are £11 per person, and £6 per child, and are available by clicking this link.
