As part of plans to introduce a new bus lane and junction in the city centre, there will be a lane closure from today.

Portsmouth City Council has confirmed that from 9:30am this morning (October 24) there will only be one lane in operation on Market Way in the city.

The closure of one lane will be in place until Friday (October 27).

Traffic travelling southbound towards Unicorn Road and the centre will need to follow the new road layout.

This closure comes as part of a scheme to encourage people to use public transport and the proposed works will continue until next year.

Councillor Gerald Vernon-Jackson, cabinet member for traffic and transportation, said: “These schemes will make bus journeys faster, more convenient and reliable. I look forward to seeing more people choosing to travel by bus, bike and on foot once the works are completed.”
