Portsmouth community nominates two Meals on Wheels drivers as 'hidden heroes' for their work
DEDICATED drivers in Portsmouth have been praised as ‘hidden heroes’ for their work as part of the Meals on Wheels initiative.
Terry Stafford and Les Grant have been nominated by the community in Portsmouth as heroes for their work with Apetito.

Apetito, the company responsible for 60 per cent of meals delivered to customers, provides meals for those unable to leave their homes.
The initiative is especially important during the coronavirus pandemic, as it allows elderly and vulnerable individuals to stay safe indoors but also provides much needed contact during these times.

Terry Stafford, in his 40s, covers Somers Town, Fratton and North End and was chosen by customers for his warm and friendly demeanour.
He said he loves the fact his customers can enjoy a daily hot meal with a smile.
Customers referred to him as ‘friendly and cheerful on all his rounds’.
‘Terry is always happy to go above and beyond to help a customer’, another added.
Mr Stafford has responded to the nomination, saying it was 'an honour’ to be recognised.
He said: 'I love my job and it’s a great feeling knowing that we make a real difference to our customers lives. I was overwhelmed and humbled by the positive feedback from our customers.’
The manager’s award was given to Les Grant, in his 50s and from Landport, who covers all the Portsmouth rounds.
He enjoys ‘all aspects of [his] job’ and loves giving back to the community.
Alicia Cudderford, sales and contracts manager for Apetito, said: ‘Les is a fantastic asset to the team and he creates a happy, positive vibe in the depot.’
She added: 'These awards are our way of giving all our drivers the recognition, praise and thanks they deserve. Every single one of our drivers regularly go beyond the call of duty to help customers and provide that added reassurance to family members their loved ones are safe’.
Apetito delivers a hot meal to customers’ doors all year round - however each of Apetito’s drivers has another important role.
Every driver is trained to undertake safe and wellbeing checks on every customer, which helps people to continue to live independently all year round.
The work of all the drivers was celebrated with nationwide Meals on Wheels Week, praising the efforts of these frontline workers.
