Portsmouth Pride event to go online as organisers continue the fight for equality

THE annual Pride event in Portsmouth will be held online this year, organisers have confirmed.

On April 1, the Portsmouth Pride Trust cancelled this year’s planned event due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The parade was due to be held on Saturday, June 20.

Now, organisers are preparing to hold an event online, to be broadcast via YouTube on the same day.

Posting on social media, the team tweeted: ‘Portsmouth Pride 2020 is going digital.

‘Join us from 6pm on Saturday, June 20 for an evening of entertainment from a host of drag, cabaret, music artists and DJ's across three hours, hosted live by Portsmouth's very own Cherry Liquor.’

Further details about the events line-up are yet to be confirmed.

Portsmouth Pride is a celebration of the LGBTQ+ community, and also gives people the chance to find out more about it and meet new people.

It is a heavily supported event, with thousands taking part every year.
