Portsmouth Valentine's Day plans in lockdown revealed

With lockdown restrictions still in place, romantic dinners for two at restaurants and Spinnaker Tower proposals are off the table.

But couples are getting creative when it comes to expressing their love for one another.

The News asked our readers what their plans are for February 14 – with a wide variety of answers in response.

James Ducarreaux said he would be having a ‘video call over a drink’ with a refreshing glass of lemonade.

Julie Waby said: ‘You have to, nowhere open for hubby and me to go anyway, so I will do the usual Sunday roast at home.’

Philippa Jones added: ‘(I’m having a) dinner at home meal from Restaurant 27.’

Others have a more tongue-in-cheek approach to Valentine’s Day, keeping themselves entertained during these tough times.

Ladies man Terry Whenman said it will be a busy day for him, as he will have to ‘sort through all my mail and guess who they're from, just like any other St Valentine's Day’.

Tracy Collingwood jokingly said: ‘I’m going to go to Paris, go up the Eiffel Tower, have dinner for two and go sightseeing – then take my virtual reality goggles off and go to bed.’

Rob Emery added: ‘Same as usual, I'll still send a card to myself.’

But spare a thought for reader Derek Priseman, from Portsmouth.

He said his Valentine’s Day plans are the ‘same as last five years, nothing – lockdown has nothing to do with it, it’s just being single and not required or wanted’.
