Purbrook Junior School boy's VE Day banner in honour of fallen heroes
A PRIMARY school pupil has been using his time at home to design a banner to celebrate VE Day.
Ryan Chivers, eight, created the artwork using an ‘old sheet and paint we had in the house’. The metre-long banner is to be hung outside the main window of his family home.
Ryan, who attends Purbrook Junior School, said: ‘I enjoyed doing the banner as it is important to remember all the people who died. I’m looking forward to seeing it displayed on VE Day.’
The banner includes silhouettes of two war planes and a saluting soldier.

Ryan added: ‘I decided to include the picture of the soldier as he is saluting all those who have fallen.’
Mum, Katherine Chivers, 35, said: ‘I think it’s really important to commemorate VE Day and remember the sacrifices of past generations.
‘I think there are parallels between the war effort and what we are experiencing today. What we are living through now will also go down in history.’
Children at Ryan’s school have been asked to send in photographs of any work they have done during lockdown.
Ryan said: ‘Miss Clarke said it was really good and is looking forward to seeing it when we go back to school.’
