A 24-hour relay in Portsmouth has raised around £60,000 for Cancer Research UK as teams worked together for a fantastic community event.
Around 200 people from 14 different teams took part in the Relay for Life event on the playing fields at Portsmouth Grammar School over the weekend, participating in a range of relay races with each team keeping a member out on the track at all times.
Each relay race was themed, including an egg and spoon race, inflatables race, PJs and teddy bears race and a three-legged race, alongside musical entertainment and fun activities to create a festival atmosphere.
Participants - who raise money through the year - were able to camp on site, with supporters able to visit and cheer on the fundraisers with stalls, a kids corner and food also at the event.
The event also featured a poignant Candle of Hope ceremony as well as an opening Survivors' Lap of Honour.
Relationship manager Christina Pask said: “As the second longest-running event of its kind in the world, the Portsmouth edition began in 1997 and has raised £1.9 million for life-saving cancer research, by bringing together local families, cancer survivors, and supporters to celebrate life and remember loved ones.”
The event will make a return in 2027.
