Runaway emu caught by Hampshire police on busy A32

The bird was seen walking on the A32 near Mislingford and Swanmore this morning just before 9.40am.

Police and a vet have rescued the animal and it has been taken to a ‘safe location’.

Writing on Facebook, Fareham police said: ‘Officers from our Response and Patrol Team have been in a flap this morning trying to catch an Emu that was loose on Wickham Road.

‘We were unable to locate the owner, so officer took the bird to Birdworld. Officers are pleased to report it is safe and well.

‘We are appealing for the owner to come forwards. If you are the owner or know who it may belong to, please could you give us a call on 101 quoting incident: INC-20210204-0463.’

A police spokesman said: ‘We were called just before 9.40am after an emu was seen walking on the A32 near Mislingford. Officers have attended with a vet and located the bird.

‘It will now be transported to a safe location.’
