East Hants Dachshunds has launched its charity competition, aimed at sausage dog owners who are missing out on canine contests which have been cancelled.

The group, which hosts events and walks across the area, is missing meeting up - so founder Larissa Carey came up with the idea of keeping people connected and encouraging some new owners to join in.

Larissa, from Tipner, said: ‘A large number of our members all love to go to dog shows all over the East Hants area and even further afield. We are missing all these interactions with our sausage crew with the current lockdown - thus an online dog show has been born!

‘The lockdown is hard on everyone, especially those with social dogs. Being social is what our group is all about and we really don’t know when we will be able to host our events or walks again.’

Entries are open for two weeks from May 5, so will end next Tuesday. Entry costs £2.50 per category per dog at easthantsdachshunds.co.uk, and all you have to do is email your entry through to the team.

Each of these is sponsored by a local pet business, with rosettes available for first, second and third place in each category as well as a range of prizes with a combined worth of more than £1,000.

Proceeds from the show will go to Southampton charity Phoenix Rehoming, which helps dogs of any kind and has rehomed more than 440 dogs since 2016.

Loving owner Chloe Givans, who entered her beloved Slinky into the contest to support the charity and businesses, said: ‘I entered as I love to take Slinky to shows and meet with our friends and I also love to take photos of him and this combined the two!

‘We really are missing seeing all our friends and can’t wait to see everyone’s entries.’
