The owner of the boat had lent it to a friend for the day before it was returned.

Crew manager Chris Caton said: ‘It was a small boat that suffered 100 per cent fire damage. We are not sure what caused the fire but it was a little bit suspicious, which is how we have logged it.

‘There is a chance it could have been faulty, though.’

He added: ‘The boat was borrowed by a friend for the day before it was returned. No one was loitering and there were no particular suspicions.’

Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze quickly preventing it from spreading.

No evacuations were needed.
