A forecast by the Met Office predicts that the strong winds felt yesterday will continue until at least Saturday, albeit they will start to ease off in the coming days.

Last night’s wind speeds of around 50mph are set to continue this morning, though by the end of today it will have dropped to 30mph, the Met Office said.

A photo shows one of the large children’s toys with its legs on the bonnet of a parked grey car in Anson Close, Gosport.

It is thought to have been lifted out of a nearby garden by gales during the night.

In a post on Facebook this morning the police advised residents to ensure items like trampolines are ‘properly secured’ before forecasts of windy weather.

They also joked that if anyone was ‘missing a trampoline’ in the area this morning - they had found it.

Gosport police said: ‘Secure it: If you own items like this trampoline, please ensure they're properly secured prior to any windy weather, to avoid this happening.

‘And, if you live in the Anson Close area and are missing a trampoline, this is where it is.

‘We hope the vehicle in question is unscathed.’

A yellow Met Office warning was issued for strong winds in the Hampshire from 9pm last night until 3pm this afternoon.

It comes in the midst of a flood warning for parts of the south east region, with heavy showers and a risk of hail in Portsmouth this afternoon.

Friday and Saturday will still be breezy, according to the Met Office, with showers coming in from the west but more frequent sunny spells as the temperature rises to 10 degrees celsius.

Monday is expected to be largely dry, with light winds and bright or sunny spells.
