Two injured after large garage fire in Hampshire leaves people homeless

More than 60 firefighters and 14 fire engines from Hampshire, Berkshire and Surrey fire and rescue services were called to a commercial garage fire on Elms Road, Aldershot early this morning.

On arrival, crews were faced with flames and thick smoke as tyres and cars were involved in the blaze within the two-storey workshop. A turntable ladder and two aerial ladder platforms were mobilised for firefighting.

Residents were taken to a relief centre at Princes Hall arranged by Rushmoor Borough Council and the British Red Cross.

Two casualties – a 66-year-old male and a 96-year-old female – were taken to hospital for smoke inhalation by South Central Ambulance Service.

Flats behind the industrial estate have suffered devastation and extensive roof damage. As a result those residents will be re-homed.
