‘(We) found the two people and their dog in the gathering dusk before they were guided by a display light,’ a spokesman for the rescue service said.

‘The rapidly rising tide had already reached their feet and it would not have been long before they would have been in serious trouble.

‘All three were taken aboard the lifeboat and medically checked for hypothermia and shock.’

The two people and dog were deemed ‘fine’ following checks before they were taken into the care of Selsey Coastguard.
