WATCH: Duchess of Cambridge praises work of hospices like Naomi House

To mark the start of Children’s Hospice Week, Kate has released the video praising the work of those helping sick youngsters across the country.

Naomi House and Jacksplace, which offer palliative care for children across the Portsmouth area and south coast, has welcomed her message.

In 2013, Kate visited the hospice, in Winchester, and met the families who are supported by the staff.

Mark Smith, its chief executive, is thrilled to have Kate raising awareness for children’s hospices.

He said: ‘It feels like only yesterday the Duchess of Cambridge joined us to mark the start of Children’s Hospice Week in 2013.

‘Her visit sparked a period of growth and development that saw the complete refurbishment of Naomi House and a sizeable increase in the number of life-limited and 
life-threatened children, young people and families that we care for each year.

‘We are delighted she has maintained her support.’

During the video, which is due to be released today, Kate talks about her personal experience of the difference children’s hospices and palliative care services can make.

She said: ‘Across the UK more than 49,000 children and young people have life-limiting conditions.

‘For these families, having expert care and support is vital, and this is what children’s hospices provide.

‘They deliver first-class care in a safe environment that feels as close to home as possible, full of colour, warmth, love and support.’

Kate added: ‘Today as we mark the beginning of Children’s Hospice Week – I hope you will join me in shining a light on the dedicated and inspirational staff and volunteers, and the lifeline services they provide for children and their families.’
