Woman escapes blaze that rips through house leaving it ruined

A WOMAN fled for her life after a fire ripped through a house this afternoon.

The blaze, which started at midday, left the house in Kings Worthy, near Winchester, ruined.

Fire crews were called to the property in Mortimer Close where thick smoke was seen billowing from.

A female resident was at home when the inferno erupted before escaping.

No one was injured following the fire – which is thought to have started in the roof before quickly spreading.

Crews remain at the scene and a cordon is in place.

The cause is being investigated.

Crews from Winchester, Eastleigh, Andover and Whitchurch attended.

South Central Ambulance Service also attended. The service posted on Twitter: ‘Thankfully no one has been injured but we remain on scene. Please could we ask people to avoid the area and if you're local close your windows and doors.’
