“It’s going to be so much fun, and we can’t wait to see everybody.”

A community centre in the heart of Portsmouth is hosting a blockbuster summer fair tomorrow - and everyone is invited to join the fun.

Stamshaw and Tipner Community Centre in Wilson Road, Stamshaw, is putting on a fair this Saturday (August 22), with plenty of stalls, entertainment and even an animal ‘cuddle corner’.

The event has been organised by trustees to fundraise for air conditioning throughout the building, which they say will help immeasurably with hosting more events in the future. During this summer, at the height of the heatwave, the centre has been relying on multiple fans being plugged in to try and cool down visitors.

Andrew Frewing-House, who helped organise the fair, said: “With temperatures set to rise in the coming years, we need air conditioning to keep our venue comfortable, and maintain its success.

“Events such as wrestling shows, martial arts sessions, bingo nights and more will be so much better for everyone involved if we can get air con. As a charity, that’s something we have to fundraise for, so the support of people in the community is greatly appreciated.

“We hope to put on a great day for everyone this weekend. The live wrestling is always fun to come and watch, plus we’ve got loads of stalls and even an cuddle corner, thanks to the Mobile Petting Farm. It’s going to be so much fun, and we can’t wait to see everybody.”

The summer fair will run from 11am-4pm, with free entry for all guests.
