Navy veteran Craig, who has lung cancer, found internet stardom when he went to his first chemotherapy session at Queen Alexandra Hospital dressed as a pirate in the hope it would make people smile.

He was spotted by a woman on the bus who took a selfie with him and posted it online, which was shared thousands of times.

Craig, a plasterer and decorator, spent yesterday at Pompey’s training ground in Copnor meeting the players and manager ahead of his appearance.

Colin Farmery, from the club, said: ‘He had a good time, we’re looking forward to Saturday.’
