A dozen candidates vie for Havant Tory nomination

A LONG LIST of 12 candidates has been chosen by the Conservatives to stand in Havant in May next year.

MP David Willetts is stepping down. Out of 96 applicants, a final 12 have been long-listed and will be interviewed tomorrow. Four will go to a public vote on October 25.

The candidates are:

Cllr Antonia Cox, a Westminster councillor

Barrister Suella Fernandes

Sian Flynn, of the Parole Board for England and Wales

Journalist turned businessman Mark Fox

Chris Hayward, deputy leader of Herts County Council

Sarah Heald, a partner at financial PR firm Finsbury

Sarah Macken, the chief executive of ESCO

Alan Mak, an entrepreneur and investor

Michael McManus, who was transitional executive director of the Press Complaints Commission

Luke Parker, associate partner at IBM and son of publicans at who ran The Star in Havant

Laura Trott, an adviser to the Prime Minister on education and family policy

Charlotte Vere, executive director of the Girls’ Schools Association
