Beauty aesthetics business given permission to operate from ‘small’ bedroom in Fareham

A beauty business has been given permission to operate from a home

Plans for a “low-key” aesthetics business in a bedroom have been approved.

Deborah Kirkby applied to use the fourth bedroom at her home in Alexander Grove, Fareham, as a base for her business, Laser and Skin Rejuvenation Clinic, which offers cryotherapy and non-surgical aesthetics.

The application submitted to Fareham Borough Council said the business has a specific focus on cold therapy and medical-grade laser/IPL treatments.

Ms Kirkby said it is “low-key” and does not require a change of use to a mixed residential and business use.

She said: “The business is a low-scale, home-based clinic operated solely by myself in one room only. The property remains primarily a private residence, and client volume is low (three to five a day) and is strictly by appointment.”

The applicant stated there would be no additional members of staff, and the property benefits from a three-car driveway which will be offered as parking for clients.

Ms Kirkby added: “The room remains fully capable of being used as a bedroom and has not been permanently converted. Professional clinical waste is managed by a registered collection service.”

According to the application, there will only be three and five clients a day between the hours of 9am to 6pm. The business would operate at these times from Monday to Friday.

Planning officers from the borough council said: “Officers have assessed the proposal carefully. The applicant proposes to use the smallest, fourth bedroom as a treatment room for a home-based clinic providing non-surgical aesthetic procedures, specifically Cryotherapy and Medical-Grade Laser/IPL treatments (using NHS-standard Lynton equipment.

“The nature of the business is quiet and discreet. Parking is available within the site.  The level of activity will not adversely affect neighbour amenity and highway safety.”

Cryotherapy, also known as cold therapy, is the local or general use of low temperatures in medical therapy, often for things like wart removal or skin conditions. The laser treatments are typically light-based treatments used for various procedures, including hair removal, skin rejuvenation, and reducing blemishes.

The plans were approved on May 1.
