Brexiteers to go on Portsmouth pub crawl to celebrate Brexit Day - and the whole city is invited

JUBILANT city Brexiteers will be celebrating Britain’s historic divorce with Europe – by going on a huge pub crawl with the public tonight.

Leave supporters will be having a night on the tiles, visiting boozers across Portsmouth to toast Brexit Day and are keen for residents to join them.

Staunch Brexiteer Donna Jones insisted today was a huge moment for the nation and that the celebrations would begin at The Lord Palmerston, in Palmerston Road, Southsea, from 7.30pm, before heading down Albert Road towards The Kings pub.

Inviting the city along, Cllr Jones said: ‘This will be a great opportunity to come together as Britain embarks on a new and historic chapter for the UK.’

The Tory chief said Brexit would give Britain ‘new hope’ for trade and investment and that fears an ‘erosion’ in UK sovereignty had prompted the 2016 referendum.

She accused Brussels of ‘stealthily evolving’ the original Common Market trading union into a ‘grand federalist project – a United States of Europe’.

‘That threatened our distinctive identity and achievements in a kind of homogenised continent,’ she said. ‘It is a semi-utopian project backed up by a technocratic, globalist vision which expects to end war forever and dissolve borders in a dream that John Lennon might have penned.’

Championing Britain’s technological industries and ‘world-renowned’ financial services, Cllr Jones insisted she was as ‘hopeful and confident as ever’ that Britain’s long-term interests were ‘best placed’ by working with Europe outside the EU.

‘From me it’s a new decade and a new hope,’ she added.
