Matt Sykes, who lives in Merlin Drive, said: 'Whilst we support the idea of local business, the idea of having a salon in a quiet cul-de-sac location where parking is becoming more and more difficult is a bad idea.

'The parking outside our houses are mostly allocated so where would the salon's clients park? The answer - in our spaces. This would just cause constant upset to be honest.'

Brian Dolley, who also lives in Merlin Drive, added: 'We strongly object to this application mainly on the grounds of noise, parking and increase of traffic in a once quiet cul-de-sac location.'

However, Karen said the salon would cause 'minimal impact.'

'I understand parking has been raised as a concern, I do not see this causing anyone in Merlin Drive a problem as we own two private parking spaces,' she said.

'On weekdays one will always be free as my husband works and will be used by my clients. Weekends I am going to ensure one space is always left empty ensuring minimal impact to the residents in Merlin Drive and also making it convenient for my customers.

'Since applying for this application I have been contacted by residents in the street who have asked if they can book with me at the salon, these enquiries were lovely to receive. As well as support from other neighbours.'

Two letters of support for the salon were submitted ot the council.
