Contractor boss says Somers Town flats '˜will be finished'

THE boss of an under-fire housing contractor carrying out a renovation project on an ageing block of flats is confident the work can be finished without further delay.

As reported in The News yesterday, residents living in Wilmcote House, in Hyde Park Road, Somers Town, Portsmouth have been left angry at setbacks in the scheme to redevelop the 1960s flats complex.

The work was awarded to housing contractor Keepmoat by the city council.

Mark Crane, regeneration officer at Keepmoat, has now responded to residents’ concerns.

In a statement, he said the work had been ‘challenging’, adding: ‘We absolutely recognise the concerns of the residents of Wilmcote House and are confident that the issues are being addressed.’

The work will be completed in spring 2017, he added.
