Coronavirus: How council services in Portsmouth and surrounding areas are currently affected

AS MOST aspects of life change for UK residents amid the coronavirus pandemic local councils are having to adjust what services they can provide on a daily basis.

The closure of tips and playgrounds are just some of the newest changes to council services in the Portsmouth area as the situation develops.

Here is a list of the current status of council services in Portsmouth and the surrounding areas as of March 25. Note that if you live in the boroughs of Fareham, Gosport and Havant some of your services will also be provided by Hampshire County Council.

Adult social care: Portsmouth services are running as usual although the council has issued guidance on visiting care homes, which can be found on its website.

Hampshire County Council’s care homes have stopped visitors.

Council meetings: All public meetings have been postponed in Portsmouth. Most Hampshire, Fareham, Gosport and Havant meetings have been cancelled - but check the websites.

Civic offices: Civic offices in Portsmouth, Havant closed and Gosport are closed. Offices in Fareham are still open but residents are advised to avoid where possible.

Events: All events in Portsmouth and Hampshire boroughs have been postponed.

Home to school transport: Home to school transport has been cancelled in Portsmouth. It is only running in Hampshire for children of key workers.

Household waste and recycling centres: All HWRCs in Hampshire and Portsmouth are closed.

Housing offices: In Portsmouth the Portsea housing office is closed but all the city's other housing offices remain open at run a reduced service for customers to pay rent, report emergency repairs and report serious housing issues. Housing offices can be contacted on 023 9283 4989.

Housing offices in Havant, Fareham and Gosport are closed for face-to-face meetings.

Libraries: All libraries are closed in Hampshire and Portsmouth. Portsmouth museums also closed.

Playgrounds and outdoor gyms: They are closed in Portsmouth, Gosport, Havant and Fareham. Parks are open for walks.

Recycling and rubbish: Collections are unaffected in Portsmouth and except for the collection of bulky items which have been suspended .

Collections are unaffected in Gosport.

In Fareham garden waste and bulky waste have been postponed.

In Havant garden waste is being rescheduled. Residents are asked to check the website about this.

Parking: In Fareham Osborn Road and Fareham Shopping Centre multi-storey car parks have closed. The Market Quay car park will have the entrance barriers lifted and parking charges suspended.

Charges for paid for parking in Portsmouth including residents’ zones, on-street and council car parks has been suspended.

Pest control services: Have been suspended everywhere.

Public toilets: Are closed in Fareham, Gosport and Havant. Public toilets are currently open in Portsmouth.
