Council tax support faces being reduced

PEOPLE are being encouraged to have their say on the future of a council tax support scheme.

Portsmouth City Council will be considering options for how much council tax discount should be given to households on low incomes.

Ahead of this, the council is running a consultation to get residents’ opinions.

This comes after the council’s most recent budget consultation showed more than 77 per cent of residents responding would support reductions in the amount of council tax support being offered.

Running the council tax support scheme in Portsmouth costs more than £12m a year.

Cllr Luke Stubbs, deputy leader of the council, said: ‘We are reviewing the level of council tax support we provide and it’s very important we get residents’ opinions on the options being considered. I’d encourage as many people as possible to have their say.’

The consultation runs until September 29. To take part search ‘CTS survey’ at portsmouth.gov.uk
