Council to consult on proposed tax rise
As part of the autumn statement, the 50 councils with the lowest council tax have been given an opportunity to increase their council tax by £5 per year – more than the allowed 1.99 per cent.
As Fareham Borough Council falls into that category, this is one option the authority will be looking at as it works to retain services in a time of cutbacks from central government funding.

Hide AdCouncil leader Sean Woodward said: ‘Fareham has the fifth lowest council tax in the country. Even after the possible increase of £5, we would still have one of the lowest rates.
‘We want to hear your views before making this important decision.’
Fareham residents also have to pay precepts for Hampshire County Council, police and fire services, which are also all expected to raise their bills.
