Debate continues about how CCTV should be funded across Havant borough

CASH for CCTV has not been included in an authority's budget for the next financial year.

But Havant Borough Council is now seeking alternative ways to fund the cameras, which cover Havant and Waterlooville town centres and cost £150,000.

Councillor Mike Cheshire, the authority’s leader, has written to Simon Hayes, the police and crime commissioner for Hampshire, for financial help.

A survey of 350 residents showed 70 per cent wanted to keep CCTV as it is a crime-fighting tool. The council’s scrutiny panel are due to report back on March 31.
