Fareham Borough Council’s Tory executive has selected which firm it would like to see run the facility at Lee-on-the-Solent, over a five-year contract.

The firm, whose identity will not be revealed until negotiations are signed off, was one of four companies that put bids forward to the council.

It comes after the runway officially reopened last year after a £1.5m cash boost from the council.

A commemorative flight piloted by borough council leader Sean Woodward took off from the resurfaced runway to mark the occasion.

Welcoming the progress, Cllr Woodward said at last night’s executive meeting: ‘It’s putting out a clear message that we want to see a good, competitive airfield running at Daedalus which is able to be commercial viable.

‘We need to see that happen and we need to provide suitable facilities there for the airport to use.’
