SHADOW attorney general Charles Falconer has called Fareham MP Suella Braverman ‘disingenuous’ following her tweeting in support of under-fire Dominic Cummings.

The Labour peer criticised attorney general Ms Braverman over her support of the prime minister’s senior aide.

In a tweet, Lord Falconer posted: ‘Attorney General has replied to my letter. I sought assurances she would uphold the rule of law, in the light of her tweeting in favour of accepting Cummings' account.

‘She gives no assurance. Instead she gives a disingenuous account of her earlier tweet.’

In her response, Ms Braverman said there was ‘no question’ of her offering a public legal view over Mr Cummings - with her comments ‘simply to support the decision to clarify events’.

On Saturday, Ms Braverman said: ‘Protecting one’s family is what any good parent does.

‘The Downing Street statement clarifies the situation and it is wholly inappropriate to politicise it.’
