Funeral of former city Lord Mayor and councillor to be held in Portsmouth

A BELOVED former Lord Mayor of Portsmouth and councillor will be laid to rest in the city following his 'sudden' death in India.

Friends, colleagues, charities and ‘anyone who loved’ Ken Ellcome have been invited to his funeral, which will take place at St Mary's Church in Portsea, on February 24.

Mr Ellcome, who served as a Conservative Portsmouth city councillor between 2011 and 2019 and as lord mayor in 2017, was with his wife Jo in the Indian state of Kerala when he suffered a heart attack and died aged 74.

A minute's silence was held for the former police officer, during a full council meeting on Tuesday.

Speaking about the funeral Tory leader Councillor Donna Jones said: ‘Everybody is welcome - charities and anyone who knew Ken.’

Lord Mayor Cllr David Fuller added: ‘He was a great man who will be sorely missed.’

The funeral will start at 1.30pm.
