ADDITIONAL housing in the strategic gap between Fareham and Gosport would make transport problems significantly worse, according to the Gosport Labour Party.

Following a public meeting at Peel Common Junior School on Thursday, the Labour Party has spoken out about Fareham Borough Council's proposal for 475 homes between Newgate Lane and Tukes Avenue.

Caroline Osborne, from the Gosport Labour Party, said: '˜The new road, which already has questionable worth, will be completely choked with traffic, unless it is directed to Tukes Avenue, a residential area with a primary school.

'˜That is without considering the wider impact of these proposed developments - more pollution, the compromising of the strategic gap, lack of infrastructure, to name but a few.

'˜Most of these will have a greater impact on Gosport, all the benefits going to Fareham.

'˜Once again the views and needs of the people of Gosport are totally ignored.'
