Hayling Island father welcomes HMRC decision over tax credits

A DAD-OF-THREE who protested his '˜unfair' tax credit cuts in parliament has welcomed HMRC's decision to take on the credit system without a third party's assistance.

Paul Eite, from Hayling Island, won his fight with the government after Concentrix – the firm brought in to tackle tax credit fraud – wrongly said that he was no longer eligible for his credits in August.

Concentrix was brought in by HMRC in 2014, but the revenue body have now said that they will no longer get outside help with the tax credit system.

Paul, 39, said: ‘We’re very happy that the job will no longer be outsourced by HMRC.

‘It looks like they learned their lesson, you cannot trust an external company with that much information.’

Paul says that he is in talks with the head of security at HMRC over data protection breaches.

HMRC chief executive Jon Thompson told the treasury committee last week: ‘We will not be going back to the market to seek a third party to help us in any way with the tax credit system.’

Mark Serwotka, general secretary of trade union PCS, said: ‘It is a damning indictment of this government that it took the exposure of the shocking failure of Concentrix to get to this point.’
