The Royal Navy's £3.1bn warship is currently on deployment in America for historic flight tests, having left Portsmouth in August. 

HMS Queen Elizabeth has been anchored in the Hudson River in New York City since last Friday (October 19).

Why is HMS Queen Elizabeth in NYC? 

The warship arrived in the Big Apple for a brief break from the historic flight tests it has been carrying out in the weeks since arriving in America. 

While anchored in Hudson River the ship has played host to several high profile national and international events.

Including visits from the Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson and Pompey's director Eric Eisner.

There has also been time for the ship's company to relax and explore one of the world's greatest cities.

When will 'Big Liz' leave New York? 

The Royal Navy aircraft carrier was due to spend a week in the Big Apple, so having arrived on October 19 '“ she is due to leave New York tomorrow (October 26).

'Big Liz' as she was dubbed by US media, will leave New York City to continue on with the historic flight tests before sailing back to Portsmouth later this year. 

The historic flight tests carried out by the HMS Queen Elizabeth in the last three weeks has seen F-35 jets land on the deck for the first time, and fighter jets drop test bombs in recent days.Â
