This year’s programme brings 12 traditional Live at the Bandstand events, taking on added significance as part of Portsmouth100, marking 100 years of city status.

Alongside the core programme, the council is also opening the stage to more local talent, supporting community groups and grassroots promoters to deliver seven Saturday Stage events.

The council will provide the stage, event infrastructure and security, helping bring a wider mix of performers to the fore.

Music will be spread across some of the city’s most recognisable outdoor spaces, including Southsea Bandstand, Castle Field, King George V Playing Fields, Victoria Park and Southsea Common.

Audiences can expect a broad and lively mix of genres, from ska and indie to alternative and world music, alongside jazz in the park, family friendly dance events and a special Live at the Bandstand stage for Armed Forces Day.

Councillor Steve Pitt, the leader of the council, said: “Live at the Bandstand is a Portsmouth institution, appealing to residents and visitors alike. It shows how our city is so rich in culture and creativity with such a great line up of musicians and performers over the summer.

“I’m especially pleased to see that this year, the Saturday stage opens the event up to performers around the city who might not usually get a chance to perform here.”

The series is funded and delivered by Portsmouth City Council and supported by The Wedgewood Rooms, working alongside a range of local music promoters.

All events are free to attend, with organisers noting they are subject to reasonable weather conditions, and details including timings may change.
