Local Offer Live returns with activities and advice for SEND families

An upcoming event will offer activities, talks and support for families of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Families of children and young people with SEND are being invited to a free event bringing together support services, activities and advice under one roof.

Portsmouth City Council’s Local Offer Live event will take place at the Mountbatten Centre on Wednesday, June 17 from 2pm to 7pm.

Councillor Nick Dorrington, cabinet member for children, families and education, said: “Local Offer Live is a valuable opportunity for families to come together, enjoy a range of activities, and learn more about the support available for children and young people with SEND in Portsmouth.

“The event has been designed to be both informative and enjoyable, giving families the chance to discover services, advice and activities that can support them over the summer and beyond.”

Organisers hope the event will connect with more than 100 families as part of the city’s Portsmouth100 celebrations.

More than 30 local services, organisations and community groups will be in attendance, giving families the opportunity to speak directly with professionals supporting SEND provision across Portsmouth.

Alongside information and advice, families will be able to take part in a range of free activities including multi sports, dance, arts and crafts.

The programme will also feature talks on neurodiversity and workshops focused on supporting children’s mental health and wellbeing.

The event has been scheduled from the afternoon into the evening to make it easier for families to attend around school and work commitments.

The event is free to attend, but booking is required. To find out more and book free tickets, visit: portsmouthlocaloffer.org/live
