Most military homes are '˜decent' defence minister says

HOMES for military families remain of the '˜utmost importance', a defence minister has pledged.

Mark Lancaster MP said 94 per cent of the UK’s service family accommodations – some 46,230 homes – were rated as ‘decent’ or above.

He added the Ministry of Defence was looking to improve the number of bed spaces through a new single living accommodation scheme.

Last month The News revealed there was a backlog of almost 2,000 repair jobs still needed to be tackled on military homes across Hampshire.

Jobs ranged from fixing dodgy plumbing and electrics, to repairing damaged walls and dealing with pest control reports. It prompted outrage from Penny Mordaunt, Portsmouth North MP, who demanded action.
