Whiteley’s new 900-place secondary school is a step closer with the public now being asked for their views on the plans.

Hampshire County Council wants to open a new 900-place secondary school in Whitley and, as part of the process, is carrying out a public consultation to gather residents’ comments.

The school will benefit the North Whiteley development, which includes 2,000 new homes. An additional 3,500 homes are planned, and people have already moved into 1,500.

The secondary school is planned to open in September 2027 and admit up to 180 students per year. It will offer education to children aged 11 to 16.

Provision for special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) will also be included.

Along with the consultation, the county council has published new pictures and a video of the school’s appearance when built.

The new school building will be made up of 22 classrooms, two ICT rooms, seven science classrooms, two art rooms, a sports and assembly hall, activity and drama studios, and a music classroom with practice rooms.

Two sports pitches, a multi-use game court and a grass pitch, will be created outside.

The pre-planning consultation will run from Monday, September 2, to Monday, September 30, 2024.

A drop-in event will be held on September 10, 2024, from 3.30pm to 6.30pm at Cornerstone Church of England Primary School, Bluebell Way, Whiteley, PO15 7QE.

This will allow parents and stakeholders to discuss these proposals with Hampshire County Council officers.
