Suella and Rael have known one another for around three years, and met through their shared love of politics.

Ms Fernandes says that Rael has been her biggest supporter ever since, helping her with her Brexit campaign, as well as leafletting during the 2017 general election campaign.

Rael said: ‘We met through some mutual friends, and then she invited me for a day in parliament.

‘As far as first dates go it was certainty an unusual one, but I’ve always been interested in politics so I went along with it.

‘I thoroughly enjoyed it and we agreed to meet up again.

‘We had our first ‘proper’ date a few weeks later and it all took off from there.’

According to the MP, it was the shared love of politics that allowed their romance to blossom.

She said: ‘Rael has just been so supportive of me in Fareham - I think the day I realised he was the one when he came out delivering leaflets for the election in the pouring rain.’

The two became engaged in October last year, while on holiday in Cyprus.

Rael said: ‘I had planned it all out in advance so was thinking about it the whole time we were out there.’

Suella said: ‘I think he was a bit nervous, but I was absolutely delighted. I’m so thrilled to have married him.’

The couple say that the honeymoon is on hold until parliamentary recess in the summer.

Suella said: ‘We haven’t really had the time to go on our honeymoon yet.

‘We are hoping to go in the summer though.’
