Plan for self-build homes in Warsash sparks anger from neighbours

RGOM Ltd has asked Fareham Borough Council to grant outline rights for the project on half a hectare of grazing land north of Greenaway Lane, in Warsash.

But nearby neighbours have hit out at the scheme saying it will 'completely change the outlook' of the lane.

'At present it comprises large houses set in their own grounds in a quiet rural setting,' said Rex Holford of Brook Lane, 'this will completely change and become a busy thoroughfare.'

He said there had been 'no thought to the overall impact on Warash'.

Rob Megginson, of Greenaway Lane, added: 'Greenaway Lane has no pavements and the additional traffic will make it unsafe forpedestrians.'

He added: ‘The site lies within a unique lane and the proposal to provide a layby here a (protected) oak tree is and close to a ditch which forms part of the character of Greenaway Lane is unacceptable.’

Valerie Wyatt, of Brook Avenue, added: ‘Greenaway Lane should not have any additional traffic put on it; there are no pavements and increasing the traffic flow would increase the danger to the many pedestrians and cyclists that use it.’

No date has been set to determine the application. Some documents have not yet been added to the planning portal.

Developer RGOM, led by Graham Foreman of Foreman Homes South Ltd, said in a planning document: ‘The philosophy behind the design is to create a high quality, sustainable residential development which responds to, and seeks to enhance, existing features in the landscape.’

In another document the developer said the council cannot show a five-year supply of housing.

The statement added: ‘In occasions such as this, and as established in the National Planning Policy Framework, planning permission should be granted in the absence of any adverse impacts, which would significantly and demonstrably outweigh the benefits.

‘Of the wide-ranging benefits of the scheme is the provision of self-build housing, the sustainable location and the contribution towards identified housing need within Fareham borough.’
