"Much needed" plans unveiled to convert a Waterlooville bed and breakfast into a HMO for homeless families
A Waterlooville bed and breakfast could be converted into a HMO to provide temporary accommodation for local homeless people.
A planning application has been submitted to Havant Borough Council seeking permission to convert the long-running bed and breakfast at 7/9 London Road in Widley into temporary accommodation for up to 24 people. This will be let on a short term basis to young families, prior to being re-housed in permanent accommodation in the borough, the application said.
If approved it will provide ten two-bed units and four one-bed units in ensuite studio rooms with shared facilities spread over three floors.

A planning statement from the applicant supporting the proposals said: “The proposals benefits from the proximity to essential services, including schools and hospitals which enhances the site’s attractiveness for residential use and the refurbishment of an existing premises which re-purposes existing housing stock is a more affordable and sustainable solution.
“The need to provide better temporary housing for homeless families balanced with the need for community safety within the Havant Local Plan Core Strategy is evident. This proposal contributes positively to the area’s regeneration and meets the local community’s needs.”
