Pompey chimes ring out again after specialist repair and restoration of Guildhall clock
‘Much-loved part of local heritage’ back in action
The Pompey chimes are once again ringing out across the city after a specialist team completed restoration work.
The bell at the Portsmouth Guildhall has been silent with an expert team at Time Assured carrying out repair and restoration work.

To ensure the bell could continue to mark the hour and ring out for generations to come, key components including the strike hammer and chime barrel were carefully removed and taken away for maintenance.
With the parts now back in place and described as in “excellent condition” by the council, the famous chimes can now be heard.
Councillor Steve Pitt, Leader of Portsmouth City Council, said: "The Portsmouth Guildhall clock is a much-loved part of local heritage and a familiar sight and sound for generations of people in our city.
“Maintaining historic assets such as this, helps preserve our city's unique character, to be enjoyed by residents and visitors for many years to come."
