Cllr Donna Jones said she was ‘delighted’ the Isle of Wight Council’s executive had approved plans for the Solent Combined Authority.
Last night the island’s executive five to two in favour of the Solent devolution motion.
Last week councillors on the island voted against the plan, which would see devolved powers come from central government for areas such as education and health.
Both Portsmouth and Southampton city councils have already agreed to join.
