Portsmouth councillor backs city centre development plans

A COUNCILLOR has said it is important people's views are listened to in the lead-up to the redevelopment of Portsmouth city centre.

The city’s Labour leader Councillor Stephen Morgan has welcomed Portsmouth City Council’s plans to bring houses and retail space to the area where the tricorn used to stand.

The proposal is for 2,600 homes and 9,700 jobs.

Cllr Morgan said: ‘I’m committed to securing a prosperous future for our city.

‘To do that Portsmouth needs to attract more private sector investment to help create the quality jobs people need. With it we must ensure there is affordable housing.’

He added: ‘It is hugely important the council listens to the views of the community in developing these ideas into concrete proposals.

‘It’s time the heart of our city gets its beat back.’
