Premier Inn named as the operator for four-storey Fareham hotel
PREMIER Inn has been named as the operator for a potential 84-bedroom taxpayer-owned hotel in a town centre.
The new four-storey unit is planned for the vacant offices at the back of Fareham Shopping Centre in Fareham above the existing Waterstones shop, creating 40 jobs.
Fareham Borough Council, which will fully fund the investment and own the hotel, is set to work with centre operators Roubaix Group to bring forward the development.
Derek Griffin, head of acquisitions at Premier Inn said: ‘We’re seeing strong customer demand for Premier Inn nationwide and Fareham is a location where we’ve been wanting to invest for some time.
‘This is an excellent opportunity for a top-quality Premier Inn in the heart of the town, supporting business and leisure guests alike and contributing to the future of Fareham.’
Councillor Sean Woodward, leader of the council, said: ‘By fully funding the build and bringing in a market-leading hotel operator in Premier Inn, we are creating long-term value and returns as well as delivering a regeneration boost to Fareham’s town centre.’
Plans for the hotel are due to go on display at a consultation event in the shopping centre on March 23 and 24.
