Street lights across Hampshire are upgraded in £225m project
The project, being undertaken by SSE, has taken five years and the installation part is now complete, on time.
All lighting stock that needed replacing across Hampshire has been done on a like for like basis with white fluorescent light, in the majority of residential areas.
The scheme aims to save energy, using more energy efficient lamps, reduced burning hours and dimming lights to reduce carbon emissions.
Executive member for environment Sean Woodward, said: ‘This has been a massive undertaking and I am delighted that it has been completed on time.
‘The installation of the latest technology will give us greater flexibility in how we manage street lights, giving improved visibility in areas that need it and the ability to dim lighting in areas that don’t, having a positive effect on the amount we spend on carbon tax.’
