Take a look inside the new affordable home development in Portsmouth

Work on the Vivid Homes project in Goldsmith Avenue in Fratton has now finished with the first residents moving in next week.

The 'significant' scheme includes 56 flats to rent at an affordable level - two of which are adapted for wheelchairs - and 14 part-rent, part-buy flats. There are also 46 car parking spaces.

It is the first large Vivid development in the city for a few years and has replaced a former MoT centre that sat on the corner of Goldsmith Avenue and Fawcett Road.

Mike Shepherd, development director at Vivid said: 'Goldsmith Avenue is one of our most significant developments and we’re delighted to welcome residents who will now be able to call it their home.

'It was important to us that we created a high-quality development that the people of Portsmouth can be proud of, and I’m delighted with what we’ve achieved.'

Mr Shepherd also believed creating a mix of home types was vital. He said: 'We need to make sure we are building homes in places people need them and there is definitely a need in Portsmouth.

'The affordable homes are the exact same quality as the other homes. It helps in terms of social stigma around local authority and housing association homes.'

The development also includes cycle storage and is close to a bus stop and Fratton train station.

And vouchers for residents using public transport will be provided.

Caroline Cairns, from Vivid, added: 'These will encourage people to use green travel, as it's going to benefit those who use it.'

Vivid, PMC, Portsmouth City Council and Homes England worked in partnership to bring this site forward.

The site was first earmarked for development in 2015 and work began just over two years ago.

Shared ownership tenants will move in next week and nominations for the affordable flat tenants will be made by Portsmouth City Council in February.

Vivid's next project is to develop affordable homes in the Kingston Prison site.
