Travellers' site could be built near village

PLANS are afoot to turn land formerly used as an army barracks into a permanent gypsy and travellers site.

The application seeks to change the now agricultural land into four travelling show persons’ pitches at the Old Army Camp on Cemetery Lane, Westbourne, near Emsworth.

The design and access statement states: ‘The application seeks permission for change of use of agricultural land for the siting of four permanent travelling show person’s pitches.

‘The site provides space for eight mobile homes and parking, storage and maintenance of associated show persons’ vehicles.’
